Boundary layer flow over vertical surface embedded in a porous medium with double diffusive convection effects
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2016) Nicodemus, Deodatus
Boundary layer flow over vertical surface embedded in porous medium with double-diffusive convective effects is investigated. The equations were transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations (ODE) which are non linear, using similarity transformations. The solutions of the transformed equations were obtained numerically using the fourth order Runge-Kutta combined with a shooting techniques. The effects of physical parameters emerging in the model for some selected values on the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration distributions in the boundary layer have been studied and presented graphically. The effect of some selected values of physical parameters on skin friction coefficient, heat transfer coefficient and mass transfer coefficient at the wall have also been determined numerically and presented in tabular form. The results show that within the boundary layer, increasing thermal buoyancy and concentration buoyancy parameters results in velocity overshoots close to the wall in the boundary layer, the effect on the thermal and concentration boundary layer is also significant. Increasing thermal buoyancy parameter and concentration buoyancy parameter have also resulted in an increase in skin friction, heat transfer coefficient and mass transfer coefficient at the wall. All the effect of physical parameters revealed that among others double-diffusive convective effects on heat and mass transfer on fluid flow.
