Factors and benefits of value for money practices in conservation organizations: The case of world wide fund for nature (WWF
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2015) Ngoye, Elizabeth Abigael
VfM has become the top agenda for many governments, donors as well as receipt organizations. This study assessed factors for effective VfM practices and respective benefits in conservation organization, the case being World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).Specific objectives were to assess the extent to which selected factors (donor pressure, regulatory frameworks and staff capacity) influence effective VfM practices for conservation benefits. Explanatory research approach was used whereby data was collected from 108 WWF staff from 17 offices using structured undisguised questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and hierarchical multiple regression methods were used for data analysis. The findings revealed that donor pressures have linear relationship and statistically influences VfM practices. The most influencing donor factors were donor requirements and funding. Similarly, country regulatory frameworks and management support were found to significantly influence the adoption of effective VfM practices in conservation organizations. Additionally, the growth level of an organization and the number of staff significantly mediate the adoption of VfM practices. Benefits for VfM adoption include increased economics returns to beneficiaries and development of VfM guidelines. The adoption of effective VfM practices is therefore vital for improved conservation benefits and accountability. Conservation organizations therefore need to ensure the adoption and harmonization of efficient practices as well as capacity strengthening of staff for improved services and hence effective delivery of conservation benefits.
