Assessment of project communications management (the case of Construction Projects in Tanzania)
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2014) Ngirwa, Clement Cleophace
Tanzania construction industry has been experiencing many challenges, one being ineffective implementation of project communications management that lead, to cost overrun and delays in completion for most construction projects. Efficiency and effectiveness of the construction process strongly depend on quality of communication. Like other countries, the Tanzania construction industry has faced the effect resulting from ineffective communications management. Unfortunately in this industry, an assessment of applicability of project communications management is rarely considered because insufficient studies have been done on this area of interest. This research aimed at assessing the applicability of project communications management in construction projects in Tanzania. In conducting this research, data were collected mainly by using questionnaires on which a total of 108 questionnaires were dully filled and returned for analysis. Data were finally analysed by Statistical Package for Social Science and factor analysis was done using AMOS Software version 7 to confirm them. Research findings confirmed that awareness level on importance of applicability of project communications management was adequate but the extent of its applicability was low. Main reasons were the lack of communications management system in construction firms and lack of training to construction project workers. Factors affecting none use of project communications management tools were found to be Education level of supervisors and inexperienced supervisors to interpret drawings.
