A critical assessment of the law relating to consumer and consumer protection in Tanzania: a particular emphasis on food law and the protection of infants
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2003) Ndumbaro, Damas Daniel
This dissertation is intended, among other things, to evaluate the impacts of globalization to the laws relating to consumer and consumer protection in Tanzania. To achieve the goal, the dissertation is organised into five chapters. The write up appraisal accommodating background to the problem, statement of the problem, hypothesis, objective of the study, research methodology and literature review, jointly form chapter one to the dissertation. Chapter two deals with the concept of consumer and consumer protection, definition of terms, historical background as well as evolution of the concept of consumer protection based on socio economic structure. The law relating to consumer and consumer protection and the remedies to the injured consumer are examined at chapter three. The field research outcome on consumer affairs and awareness is part and parcel of this chapter. In chapter four, the food consumers and their day-to-day problems have been addressed to some extent. An infant and young child right as consumers of food is an integral of this chapter. Lastly, conclusions, suggestions, recommendations and summary of all the above chapters is what constitutes chapter five, which is the last chapter of this dissertation. This dissertation aims at contributing to the discussion of reducing if not eliminating the suffering inflicted to consumers.
