Item Factors limiting the success of women enterpreneurs in Tanzania: a case of Kilangalanga women group(University of Dar es Salaam, 2014) Ndondi, Grace RichardThis study aimed at examining the factors limiting the success of women entrepreneurs in Tanzania by looking at credit availability, entrepreneurial information and support from government and thereby recommend remedies for the future improvement of women entrepreneurs in the SME sector. Kilangalanga Women Group who are saloon business owners were used as a case study. To achieve the objective, primary data was collected through surveying Kilangalanga women group who are located at Mbezi kimara in Dar es Salaam. Descriptive method was used to analyze data. The key major findings reveal that credit availability, entrepreneurial information and support from the government are still a problem to the success of women entrepreneurs. When it comes to credit availability from credit providers, women entrepreneurs do not want to associate themselves with loans from credit providers/financial institutions such as banks because of high interest rates, short credit returning period, lacking collaterals and small amounts of loan. The study has equally found that women business groups lack entrepreneurial information and skills because of high training fees charged by skill providers. Furthermore there is very little support from government, which apart from business registration do not provide them with financial and education support. Based on the study findings, it is recommended that credit providers need to review credit policies so that women entrepreneurs access to credit facility with flexible regulations, lower interest rates, reasonable amount of loan and enough loan repayment period of investing the loan before it is returned. Entrepreneurial skill providers should create more awareness and low entry fee. So that this skills can help women to be innovative, understand the market and manage the business successfully. Government should find ways of supporting women entrepreneurs financially and educationally.
