    The role of ports/harbours in facilitating trade international the Case of Dar es Salaam Port

    This study looks at the role played by The survey strategy was employed in undertaking this study where by a sample from direct stake holders i.e. traders, port managers, officers and other employees was taken. The study used questionnaire, observation and unstructured interviews in collecting data. Other data such as management reports and other documents were also considered. Both qualitative and quantitative ways of analyzing data were used.42 respondents out of fifty respondents in this study agreed that there is a relationship between ports and the growth of international trade. It was also found that when ports are properly managed international trade is improved. The government should therefore look at the factors that can improve the management of ports these were identified in the study as experience and level of skills of employees, good infrastructure, and effective process flow, existence of both government and private sector such as agencies. Policies that will bring about improvement in managing the ports will improve international trade.
