    Assessment of the effectiveness of training and development programs offered by public institutions: a case Study of Tanzania Bureau of Standards
    (University of Dar Es Salaam, 2016) Mwakibete, Dorice
    This study assessed the effectiveness of training and development programs offered by Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS). The quantitative research approach was adopted in which a self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection from 30 supervisors and 100 employees. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation and multiple regressions with the help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Version 16). Study findings reveal that training design and frequency of training influence the effectiveness of training and development offered by the institution. Using a Chi-square test, the study found a significant relationship between training delivery and its effectiveness (p < 0.05), as well as between frequency of training and its effectiveness (p < 0.001). Factors such as commitment of the management, and available resources were found to affect the effectiveness of training and development. In order to ensure effectiveness of the training, it is necessary to conduct training needs assessment, to incorporate training and development in the organisational long term plans and lastly to conduct evaluation at the end of the courses as well as at work in order to assess how well the training fits the employees work
