This study assesses the quality of health services for NHIF members in Dar es Salaam Tanzania, a case study of Kinondoni Municipality. It focuses on the doubts and complaints of the members towards the quality of health services. Members were complaining about paying out of pocket money, shortage of drugs, being poorly attended by health staffs and being marginalized in the treatment process in accredited health facilities. Data were collected using questionnaire, interviews, documentary review and observation. Analysis was done using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences tool and content analysis. Frequencies, percentages, tables and quotations were used in data presentation. The study revealed low availability and accessibility of drugs/medical supplies and diagnostic investigations to members. It also showed insuffiency of adequate medical personnel and facilities. In addition to this, some brown card members were not well welcomed by receptionists. Half of the members were not well attended by doctors. However, minimal satisfaction of health services to brown card members was noted. Generally, there were slight differences in quality of services offered to green and brown card members. Based on the findings, the study recommended the need to improve the quality of health services to members by ensuring high availability and accessibility of drugs/medical supplies and diagnostic investigations to members, offering services equally with respect and courtesy as well as ensuring cooperation with all public and private provider groups in order to maintain consistent health quality standards.
