    Job satisfaction among employees in the public sector: the case study of public services fund
    (University of Dar es salaam, 2008) Mushema, Sosthenes Rwegasira
    This study investigated the overall level of job satisfaction of the employees working under the Pubic Services Pension Fund (PSPF). It had two specific objectives as follows. First, the study examined employees` level of satisfaction with the selected job monitors and hygiene factors. Second, the study endeavored to find out the relationship between selected demographic characteristics and employees` overall job satisfaction. The study involved a total of 56 respondents selected from various categories of employees. Data were mainly collected by the use of questionnaires and documentary reviews. The study noted that employees at PSPF were mostly satisfied with quantity of work allocated to them and sense of responsibility with the organization as job motivators and interpersonal relationship with co-workers and physical working conditions as hygiene factors. They were mostly dissatfied with recognition for the work they did and opportunities available for their advancement on the side of job motivator and with methodology by which changes were implemented and amount of payment the work they did. From the findings it was recommended that:!. The PSPF Management should make deliberate efforts geared towards increasing employees` chances for advancement. It could be done if stuffs are encouraged to apply for both regional and International training besides joining executive post graduate programs in the local Universities. 2. The management could effect periodic employees` appraisals for the purpose of appreciating, if not recognizing, their contribution to the organization. 3. The management could form a committee to revise PSPF` employees` retention scheme. Likewise, the Civil Service Department should:1.nsure quality service delivery under the public sector is effective, so that the goals can effectively be attained.@. Make efforts to improve on areas where dissatisfaction was found such as salary and opportunities for employees` advancement trough various pograms.
