Gold genesis in the Saza shear zone, Lupa Goldfield
(University of Dar es Salaam, 1989) Mtuy, Faustin Theobald
The Saza shear zone lies in the Lupa Goldfield within the Ubendian vicinity of the shear zone ore, basic to felsic gneisses of plutonic origin and granite intrusive. Tectonic activities caused faults, fractures and shears which acted controls of the mineralization, quartz veins and reefs being the major hosts of the gold and other metals. Petrology of the rocks within and around the shear zone reflects fracturing, shearing and pseudomorphism which dominated the area because of the high percentage of mineral pseudomorphsand and lots of sericite in the sheared rocks. Their chemistry shows mobility of elements, especially when moving from the wall rock towards the shear zones. Gold is nomalous in both the granites and the tadiorities in the area by factors of 10 and 100 respectively when compared to the World gold crustal abundances. Two possible sources of the gold in the quartz veins and reels are; the host rocks thernselves and the hydrothermal fluids originating from deep source possibly the intruding granites for which the shears acted as conduits.
