An in-depth literature survey was conducted to identify a number of challenges facing women entrepreneurs’ worldwide and Tanzania in particular. The following are identified challenges facing women entrepreneurs, accessing credit particularly for starting an enterprise, is one of the major constrains faced by women entrepreneurs. Women often have fewer opportunities than men to gain access to credit for various reasons, including lack of collateral, an unwillingness to accept household asserts as collateral and negative perceptions of female entrepreneurs by loan officers. Limited ability to tap new markets, they lack access of training and experience on how to participate in the market place especially in international market. Sample of 6 private Business Development Service Provider’s firms were selected. The data has been collected; it was analyzed using simple statistical techniques (Tables and percentage) and descriptive statistics. The study revealed that 100% of BDSPs have limited knowledge on special challenges that are facing women entrepreneurs in Tanzania. 83.3% of BDSPs do not have special programs to address challenges facing women in SMEs.It is recommended that the government of the United Republic of Tanzania (URT) and other stakeholders initiate special programs which can enable private BDSPs to understand clearly those challenges facing women entrepreneurs and the best way the BDSP can address those challenges. Those programs can enable the private BDSPs to initiate various activities which can be used in addressing the challenges facing women entrepreneurs in Tanzania, to the women entrepreneurs themselves and community at large.
