    Assessment of labour mobility in Tanzania public sector a case of the state mining corporation

    The main objective of this study was to assess the factors of labour mobility in the Public sector. Specifically, the study investigated whether there are factors contributing to labour mobility in the public sector. The researcher also assessed the internal organisational factors that enhance labour mobility in the public sector, the external organisational factors that enhance labour mobility in the public sector and determine the employees' attitude on labour mobility. In this study, data was collected through questionnaires involve reviewing a sample size of 50 respondents as well as reviewing secondary data. Most of the respondents explained the tendency towards labour mobility in Tanzania public sector. More than half of the respondents mentioned their prior experience of labour mobility. Combination of several factors significantly predict tendency towards labour mobility among the respondents in STAMICO. Higher salary and better positions elsewhere could motivate many workers to quit their jobs in Tanzania public sector. It is recommended that retention programme to be in place and the succession plan as an important factor for an individual to stay in the organisation for a long time. The external labour mobility in the public sector contributed by the salary difference in the same cadre makes an employee leave the organisation. The research findings revealed the importance of the employees’ attitude on labour mobility in the public sector. The results from the study show that Employee’s job satisfaction affects labour mobility.
