    The influence of literacy on novelization of tagalile’s endless toil
    (University of Dar es Salaam, 2015) Msuka, Aladini
    This study examines the influence of literacy on novelization of Tagalile’s Endless Toil. Specifically, it discusses the influence of literacy on characterization, plot development and themes in the novel. Guided primarily by sociological approach and close reading method, the study examines the way the novel exploits literacy for characterization, plot development and themes. The study has found that everything a literate character does is shaped by his/her literacy. On the whole, the study has found out that Tagalile’s Endless Toil depicts the influence of literacy on societal change through characterization and development of economic, cultural and political themes.The study concludes that Tagalile’s Endless Toil uses literacy to highlight the positive impact of literacy through characterization, plot development and themes. The novelist appears to use literate characters to make literacy relevant to Tanzania, Africa and the world at large.
