Partnership financing in Roman Catholic secondary schools in Tanzania
(University of Dar es Salaam., 2008) Mshana, Rachel Evarist
The study sought to investigate the Partnership Financing in Roman Catholic Secondary Schools in Tanzania. Four secondary schools were included in the study, namely Kifungilo Girls; St. Mary’s Mazinde Juu, Kongei Girls and Rosmin secondary. Study was essentially a survey. The instruments for data collection included questionnaires, interviews and documentary review. Variables examined included, sources of funds, management of the funds and its utilization. The data were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed. Finding from the study indicated that the main sources of funds used running secondary schools owned by Roman Catholic was school fees and parent’s contributions. Donors were found to contribute very little. Secondly, as far as management of the funds was concerned, it was found that, planning and budgeting of the collected funds from the above-mentioned sources involved school managers. Heads of school members of the above-mentioned sources involved school Bursar. The study recommends that: The secondary schools managed by Roman Catholic should think about other sources of revenue instead of relying entirely on school fees and parent contribution like the introduction of income generating activities within the school such as gardening, cookery, needle work and cattle keeping. It also recommended that, students and non-teaching staffs should have a representative during the planning and budgeting of the funds. This can be implemented through selecting representatives for both students and non-teaching staff who can participate in planning and budgeting for the funds.
