    The role of capacity building on women owned micro enterprises growth and sustainability in a changing business environment in Tanzania

    The study examined the role of capacity building on the women micro enterprises growth and sustainability in a changing business environment in Tanzania. Specifically, it explores the extent to which business skills and networking skills of women entrepreneurs relate to women micro enterprises growth and sustainability. A sample of 40 respondents was selected from the selected women owned SMEs. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and were quantitatively analysed using Software Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) in producing simple statistical tables and charts. The study findings revealed that awareness of the women entrepreneurs on the available trainings that supports women SMEs contributes significantly on business growth and sustainability to women owned SMEs in Tanzania. Moreover, the study revealed that markets and management skills, financial management skills, adherence to business legal requirements, perception on marketability of the products, social preparation and technical skills for enterprise building for the women SMEs, awareness of the significant roles played by marketing management strategies, business progress monitoring skills and leadership skills in managing SMEs play a key role in improving women SMEs growth and sustainability in Tanzania. Finally, networking skills positively influence women owned SMEs growth and sustainability. As the study observed, for women owned micro enterprises to grow and sustain their growth the level of awareness on capacity building; business and networking skills need to be given a special attention. Women should not only be encouraged to acquire these skills through training but they should be adequately and strongly assisted to acquire them.
