    Inventory management and its effects on the Organization performance in Tanzania: a case of Tanzania ports authority in Dar es Salaam

    Inventory management has become highly developed to meet the rising challenges in most corporate organizations. This study was about inventory management and its effects on the organization performance at Tanzania ports authority in Dar es Salaam. The study was grounded by four objectives, namely; examining the extent to which methods of handling inventory practice relate to organisation performance, determining the extent to which storage facility affects organisation performance, identifying the extent to which skills of people relate to organisation performance, and examining the extent to which motivation of employee relate to organisation performance. The data which was collected from 73 respondents through questionnaire and interview were analysed both quantitatively with the help of SPSS and qualitatively. The study found that all the four independent variables which were: effective inventory management, effective storage facilities, skilled people on inventory management and motivation of employees at TPA led to improve organisation’s performance. The study recommends that inventory management, storage facilities, skills and in services training among workers, and motivation at all levels should be carefully managed for improvement of organisation performance.
