User’ attitude towards the utilisation of electronic resources at the institute of finance management, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2016) Mollel, Mimutie Moikan
The availability of scanty understanding of the users' attitude towards the utilisation of electronic resources at the Institute of Finance Management library, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania has inspired this study. The study employed a cross-sectional research design. Convenient and stratified sampling techniques were employed to obtain a sample of 90 respondents made up of students, academics and library staff. Data were collected using questionnaires, focus group discussions and key informant interviews. Ms-Excel and Statistical Product for Service Solutions (SPSS) version 20 computer programs were used to analyse data. The findings suggest that the majority (75.6%) of the respondents were aware of electronic resources available in the IFM library. Also, most of the users had access to and utilised e-books (78.9%), e-¬newspapers (63.3%) and e-articles (55.5%). The study also found that, the majority (85%) of library users perceived that e-resources are useful and easy to use. The barriers to accessing and utilisation of e-resources at the IFM library included ineffective internet services, lack of training to users, inadequate facilities and equipments to facilitate the accessing of e-resources, and unreliable power supply. To enhance the utilisation of e-resources at the library, the study recommends: improving the infrastructure and internet connectivity, and provision of effective information literacy programmes. Moreover, concerted efforts should be made to create more awareness among academic staff and students on the availability of e¬-resources. Furthermore, librarians, academic staff and students should be trained so as to increase the utilization of e-resources.
