    The role and performance of district development corporations in the economic development of Tanzania: Dodoma and Pare district corporations as case studies

    This paper is divided into six chapters. Chapter one introduces and defines the problem, tracing the origin of district development corporations and their development. The reasons for undertaking this particular study are given and the methods used in research are discussed. Chapter two seeks to explore the general aspects of organizations and how the DDCs fit in these aspects. The discussion is mainly theoretical but it sets the ground for the discussion of research findings that follow in chapters three four and five. Chapter three is aimed, on a limited scale, to find out the activities of sample DDCs in the samples. Goals of DDCs as defined nationally are reviewed and the nationally established machinery for supervising the activities of DDCs is discussed. Chapter three discusses also the need of some criterion with which to assess performance of DDCs. Chapter four and five discuss pare DDC and Dodoma DDC respectively. The objectives of the two DDCs are reviewed and their activities of the examined one by one. Chapter six is devoted to the conclusions drawn from the findings of the study. Some recommendations pertinent to the study are also given.
