    Organizational change and the efficacy of ports inbound logistics: the case of Tanzania ports authority

    Tanzania ports had gone through tremendous changes in their structure for the past decade. Since they encompass a core sources of revenue to the government and the main channel businesses pass through, this study sought the need for determining the relationship existing between the ports change and efficacy. Organization’s change and inbound logistic factors were a focal point for the study. Results from the study showed that most staff members handling logistics had required skills related to their tasks assigned of which 43.1 percent had university degrees. Majority of employees were well experienced since over 90 percent have been at Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) for over 5 years. Using the t-test with 95 percent confidence interval and p=000, the study tested four hypotheses on factors related to demographic characteristics, organizations change inbound logistics and organization’s change in relation to inbound logistics. It was found that there was a positive relationship at p=000 and all hypotheses were support. Findings provided feedback to employees of TPA on how they contributed efficiency of port operations. The government through the TPA board of directors added tools to help them make proper decisions for improvement of the ports in Tanzania. On the other hand, findings from the other hand, findings from the study create room to TPA to direct resources to remain competitive and sustainable in the world. The study revealed that demographic related factors like education, experience in working environment and employees promotions have great influence on ports efficient operations. The study further established that efficiency of the port operations increased in border clearance, decreased bureaucratic processes, delicacy in handling cargoes, customer updates of required procedures, ability of handling bosky cargo, value for money, and trained as well as competent working staff. The study recommends to the port management to review the port setting and advice the government on the need to rehabilitate the organization.
