    The assessment of health and safety practices in the services industry: a case of Bagamoyo district hospital
    (University of Dar es Salaam, 2012) Mlekio, Rehema Sifaeli
    The aim of this study is to assess the health and safety practices in the services industry in Tanzania a case study of Bagamoyo District Hospital (BDH). The main objective of the study was to investigate the health and safety practices in service industry in Tanzania. The specific objectives were; to explore the level of knowledge and awareness of workers using health and safety practices, to determine availability of health and safety gears and employees trained to use them, and the last objective to examine the attitude of the management and employees towards practice of the health and safety. The study was descriptive cross sectional in nature and therefore qualitative and quantitative research approaches were utilized in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences in data analysis (SPSS). The study involved a total of 50 respondents at BDH. Data were collected by used structured questionnaires. The findings of this study revealed that most of workers were knowledgeable and aware of health and safety practices hence they knew safety policy, how to operate safety gears and used of it. The study also revealed that there is health and safety facilities and employees are trained to use them this has led to reduce number of accidents and increase productivity in organization. This study concluded that Management and employees have positive attitude towards health and safety programme since there are motivation on health and safety programme, and also there are intervention measure available which aimed to reducing risk factors.
