Statistical analysis of factors affecting effective provision of quality patient care in specialized hospitals: the case of ocean road cancer institute
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2015) Mlanzi, Mohamed Mbwana
This research was on factors responsible for effective provision of quality patient care. The following factors were investigated for their association with quality patient care: Government health policies, skilled and efficient human resources, sufficient technical resources, adequate health care financing and ample availability of anti-cancer medicines. In order to determine factors affecting quality patient care at the Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI), questionnaires were administered to samples of in and out-patients, health professionals and non-health professionals. Probability sampling was applied in the selection of the respondents from the four categories of in-patients, out-patients, health professional staff and non-health professional staff. A sample of 251 respondents was proportionally distributed to the four categories. In each category, sample selection from the sampling frame was done by applying systematic random sampling. The bivariate and logistic regression analysis after inclusion of demographic variables revealed that adequate health care financing was highly significant associated with quality patient care. There was also a significant association of technical resources with quality patient care. It is recommended the Government should decisively enact policies that can be easily implemented. The policies should ensure that funds allocated to ORCI are adequate to enhance quality provision of patient care.
