A survey of enterprise-level information technology initiation and adaptation software behaviour for user satisfaction.
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2004) Mkwesi, Rashid Mohamed
If we can compare IT to a long train with different compartments, then IT Software functionality would just claim the dual roles of the engine that powers the train and the links that connect the compartments to form a cohesive functional unit. In other words, IT software is pervasive - the brain and the brawn of any IT organization. Conscious of that, this study has attempted to evaluate the performance of various software initiation and adaptation strategies so as to come up with conclusions that would help organizations in selecting the best type of software. The study has endeavoured to analyse the influence of various determinants of information technology software performance, which was expressed in terms of satisfaction. It uses various methods to obtain the results. The methods include user satisfaction index, t-test, sign test, ordinary least square method and others. The results indicate that, among the software initiation strategies available, vendor initiation and adaptation for industry-specific strategy provides better Information Technology (IT) processing performance, followed by user initiation strategy. However, OLS results have indicated weaknesses of not performing well an areas of perceived adaptability and on-going technical supportability. This was evidenced by the results, which indicate that coefficients of effectiveness, speed and system administration were significant at p< 0.05. Taking the overall analysis, it is advisable for decision-makers on software to rely on user initiation adaptation as it promises to provide better IT business performance in all important areas of initial process-technology fit (ease of use, effectiveness, speed), perceived adaptability, and ongoing technical supportability.
