Assessment of the role of ngos’ support on socioeconomic welfare of women entrepreneurs in Tanzania: a case study of CARE International Tanzania
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2016) Mgimwa, Scola
This study set out to assess the role of NGOs’ support on socio-economic welfare of women entrepreneurs in Tanzania: a case study of CARE international Tanzania. This study was based on women entrepreneurs located in Dar es Salaam at Bunju ward in Kinondoni district. Specifically, the study intended to examine the extent to which entrepreneurship training, financial support and business network influence on socio-economic welfare of women entrepreneurs. Data were collected from a total of 74 randomly selected respondents. To achieve the three objectives, both quantitative and qualitative methods were used to analyze data. Frequencies, percentage, mean and standard deviations as well as correlation and regression analysis were computed for quantitative analysis. This study established that on average, a large proportion of women entrepreneurs have benefited from training provided by the NGOs. Such measures contributed to improvement of their socio-economic welfare. Business network aspects have a moderate contribution because few benefited from them. Finally, availability of meagre financial support from the NGOs was found to be a setback to entrepreneurial activities of women entrepreneurs. The study recommends that specific training programmes, especially on areas of managerial, production and marketing skills are very important for improvement of socio-economic welfare. Hence, there is need for specific attention to that aspect.
