    The role of ICT in the decision making process the public service: the case of the Dar es Salaam Regional Secretariat

    This study sought to examine ICT usage in enhancement of decision-making process in the public sector. Specifically, the study aimed at finding out types and sources of information needed by public servants in decision making, finding out the extent to which ICTs utilised /applied i n decision making processes, finding out factors that hinder effective usage of ICTs i n public service, as well as getting views on strategies to promote effective use of JCT in Public Service. Data were collected through a combination of methods, including the questionnaire. Interview, personal observation as well as review of documentary sources. The study was conducted in Dar es Salaam at the Dar es Salaam Regional Secretariat. Findings of the study divulge types and sources of information needed by public servants in decision making in administration, Law and Order. Physical infrastructure, Economic and Social services. It also revealed that the respondents used number sources of information to meet their needs, including Libraries. Documentation centers, Registry, Workshop and Seminars, Internet. Sector office, Social office, NGOs, Individuals, and institutions Findings of the study have also revealed that lCT had made significant improvements in their day to day activities that are related to decision making. This study recommends developing human capacity, identifying and applying appropriate ICT tools, improving and developing ICT related infrastructure, improving records that support service delivery, development of ICT strategic Plan and awareness raising on the role of ICT in decision making.
