Expanding the capabilities of the ni elvis ilabs shared architecture by integrating a current-voltage analyzer
(University of Dar es salaam, 2010) Maiseli, Baraka Mathias
The term iLabs refer to online remote laboratories which allow a student to access and control an experiment using the internet infrastructure. Instead of dealing with simulations which produce ideal results, iLabs provide a mechanism of interacting with real experiments. In addition iLabs provide an efficient way of sharing facilities and experiences among universities. The experiment using expensive equipment from one university can be shared by another university. In this dissertation, a Current-Voltage Analyzer instrument from the Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite device has been integrated into the iLabs Shared Architecture. The instrument added comprises of two sub instruments, which are Two-Wire and Three-Wire Current-Voltage Analyzers. The new system developed has been implemented using two experiments, which are diode and transistor characterization. The two experiments were performed using traditional laboratory and then using iLabs. It has been realized that the results obtained from traditional laboratory were very similar to the results obtained using iLabs.
