Certificate teacher education and preparation of inclusive education teachers in Tanzania
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2013) Magushi, Adamson
The study sought to assess the role of certificate teacher education and preparation of inclusive education teachers in Tanzania . The study examined the extent of the curriculum package and its implementation for certificate inclusive education student teachers. The study utilized both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The area of the study was Patandi Teacher’s college and Dar es Salaam region.. Data were collected through the use of documentary review, observations, interviews and questionnaires. Whereas qualitative data were subjected to content analysis, quantitative data were extended, classified and computed into frequencies and percentages, and presented in tabulars. The major findings show that the curriculum package for certificate teachers program was based on special education rather than inclusive education The study recommends that the TIE should ensure that quality teaching and learning materials are available in the teacher tcolleges to encourage effective teaching and learning. MoEVT should ensure effective inclusion of inclusive certificate education in certificate special education curriculum in order to prepare effective teachers for teaching inclusive classrooms.
