    Use of centralized recruitment system in local government in Tanzania

    Since independence 1961, Tanzania, had been recruiting employees to fill vacant positions in local government using different systems which have been changing overtimes, significantly depending on governance and administrative policies. This paper aimed at examining the effectiveness of the centralized recruitment system in Tanzanian local government. This study employed a case study design to solicit information from three LGAs in Dodoma region. LGAs involved in this study include Mpwapwa district council, Kongwa district council, and Dodoma municipality. The findings of the study show that Centralized recruitment is an effective system in recruiting employees for LGAs which facilitates the recruitment of qualified employees. Findings also indicate that while the system enables recruitment of highly qualified employees, the system has failed to facilitate recruitment of sufficient staff members in LGAs.
