    The structure of the manufacturing industry in Tanzania, 1964 -1970.

    This study revealed that industrialization to date in Africa is very much dependent on the relationship between centers and the African countries and on the general economic climate in the industrialized countries. The structure of industry that has evolved is very much dependent on imports of know-how, skill and industrial raw materials from the industrialized countries. It has also been noted that the industrialization process been noted that the industrialization process in Africa experienced a structural gap structure of consumption, in other works, most African countries produce what they do not consume (produce for export) and consume what they do not produce (importation of capital and intermediate goods). The study further reveals that the industrialization process in Tanzania is in many respects similar to that of other African countries. We found out that private investment in Tanzania for the period 1964 - 1970 was about 51% of total manufacturing investment. With the Arusha Declaration the public sector has been gaining ground but the structure of the manufacturing industry still remain in the main features, the same as the pre-Arusha structure. Industries with a short process of manufacturing have been established for export. These industries have the lowest value added of the manufacturing industries and the lowest labour productivity. From the above point we can conclude that the structure of the manufacturing industry in Tanzania is “distorted” in the sense that it is industrial development on the periphery of the world capitalist system. Characterized by the interconnection between the export goods industries and luxury goods industries.
