Intergration of labour reserve areas into cash crops production
(University of Dar es Salaam, 1977) Lwoga, Christopher M. F
In this dissertation our attention is focused at Lugalawa villages, an ujamaa village created in 1974 by bringing in peasants from neighbouring areas to join the original inhabitants of the village. The village is in an area which was important for the exportation of labour during the colonial administration. Then it formed part of Njombe District; and the whole of Upangwa area was the Cinderella of the district as the result of regional differentiation. In 1975 Njombe was partitioned and a new district was formed, the Ludewa district - Lugalawa village now forms part of the new district. The dissertation begins with labour migration in Upangwa. It is followed by the description of the village and how production is organised. In Chapter 3 we examine governments efforts at economic development in this village. Problems encountered in the process are discussed in Chapter 4. The dissertation ends with a summary of the 4 Chapters.
