Job satisfaction and employee performance in financial institutions: a case study of selected banks in Tanzania
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2009) Lession, Goodluck
The study was done in order to investigate how job satisfaction and employee job performance are related for employee working in financial institutions in Tanzania. In order to assess the relationship between the two variables data was collected through questionnaires and interviews. One hundred and twenty questionnaires were distributed in four selected commercial banks namely NMB, CRDB, Barclay bank and Exim bank located in Dar es Salaam and only 49 percent were returned and were all useful. Data were analyzed using the SPSS version 15 and multiple regression and correlation tools were imployed in analyzing the findings. From the result it was revealed that employee generally are satisfied with their job and specifically they are salary, supervisor, working condition and company policy. Also from data analysis showed that job satisfaction of the banking industry employees is the same regardless of the selected variables (sex, age, marital status and education background). Moreover, the results indicated that employee sex and age have a linear relationship with total job performance and the relationship is significant for sex (p=0.08) and more so for age (p=0.2). From the results it can be concluded that, employee job satisfaction and employee job performance are essential for the survival of any work organization. There is a need for banks to keep on monitoring their employee so as to determine their level of satisfaction and the way they perform their duties and responsibilities. This is to ensure that there is efficiency and effectiveness in the utilization of the human resource as one of the organization’s assets; this should go hand in hand with the review of the company policies which will reflect the current working environment.
