    Quality control and technical auditing practices for construction industry in Tanzania the case of construction projects in Dar es Salaam

    Quality control and technical auditing contribute significantly to the success of any project. Generally, in many construction projects, value for money auditing is usually carried out. But, limited technical auditing is carried out to investigate if the client has obtained the required quality for the money paid. In some cases, the auditing carried out in construction projects does not fulfill client’s requirements, since it is carried out in the final stages of the project. The intention of this research is to understand how quality control and technical auditing is conducted in construction projects by looking at their effectiveness and challenges surrounding the construction projects. Method used to conduct the research was structured questionnaires which were filled by site agents at construction sites in Dar es Salaam. The questionnaires were also distributed to key project stakeholders, namely Consultants, Contractors, National Construction Council and Ministry of Finance, technical auditing section. The findings have revealed that most of construction projects do not have quality control manuals and quality assurance policy. Absence of quality control personnel in some construction projects was also observed. The findings further revealed that technical auditing in construction projects is not done until towards the end of the construction project. This raises the need for establishing guidelines for external and internal technical auditing which are enforceable in the construction projects. These guidelines will contribute to capacity building of inspectors, thus improve quality of work in the construction industry.
