    The global strategies, organizational structures and information systems architecture adopted by exporters in Tanzania

    This study investigated the global strategies, organizational structures and the information systems architecture adopted by exporters in Tanzania. Convenient sampling was deployed and data collection was through administering a questionnaire to 100 respondents from selected firms. Findings were generated by analyzing the data set using SPSS largely descriptive analysis. Findings show that majority of the firms in Tanzania are domestic exporters deploying mainly centralized information system with some degree of decentralization followed by networking. These results further show that, most of the respondents were of the opinion that firms were only fairing well in the aspects of securing new customers but not in other areas such as increase in sale volume, new range of products and frequency of new products information. The study concludes that much as the majority of firms involved in exporting business concentrate their activities in the country, the strategy is linked to the view that the performance of such businesses is far from being impressive. This is due to the fact that most of the domestic exporters could face comparative disadvantage in terms of all factors of production but also in the respects of rules and regulations that could be of disadvantage in the particular home country. Majority of them tend to deploy centralized systems which in essence favors the strategy adopted. Changing the strategy could mean a lot in terms of firms performance and enhanced competitive advantage.
