According to minor anatomical differences or ecological preferences they are divided into three grups: the fusca, the palhalis and the morsitans types, inhabiting the thick forests, lakesides or dry bushveld respectively. together they rule over more than half the continent of Africa not covered by deserts. they kill many people and livestock's, lay waste vast, potentially productive areas, and retard the expansion of the farming industry but they may also be conserving wildlife
