Develop a web based information system for students' service administration at the institute of accountancy Arusha
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2008) Kiwango, Thadei Andrew
This study was conducted at the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA), which is one of the higher learning Institutions in Tanzania. The main objective of this study was to develop a software prototype for administering students' records at the Institute. The population for this study was 113 candidates, which involved 90 students and 23 staff members. Data were collected through questionnaires, interview, document review and observations. It was revealed that, in the academic ear 2005/2006 the Institute had a tremendous increase of the first year students' enrollment. The existing system was found incapable to manage the records of the growing number of students; due to its weaknesses such as inaccuracy, lack of integrity, slowness and inconsistence. This called for the need of an improved system which would effectively manage the students' records. The researcher also, solicited requirements for the proposed system and developed its prototype. The solicited requirements suggested the proposed system be faster, reliable, maintainable, integrity, accessible and accurate. The researcher developed a prototype for a dynamic web based information system appropriate to meet these requirements. Due to time and financial constraints the system was limited to applications, registration, and accommodation and examination modules. Some of procedures like certificate verification and electronic payments remained manual. Further research and designs would include detailed requirement solicitation to find out how to automate other procedures including the certificate verification and electronic payments to the system.
