Item The usage of mobile learning technology on open and distance learning in Tanzania: the case of open university of Tanzania: Dar es salaam campus(University of Dar es Salaam, 2016) Kiliba, DeniceThis study assessed the influence of mobile learning technology among open and distance learning students at Open University of Tanzania in Kinondoni district. The study employed quantitative research approach to assess the influence of mobile learning technology among open and distance learning students. Primary data were obtained at the Open University of Tanzania while secondary data were collected from various literatures.The study used randomly sampling to select50 respondents. Interview guidelines were used to capture the insight of the problem. The study found that there were lack of education on how to access material through mobile devices, lack of enough funds to facilitate the purchasing standard mobile devices, lack of support from system administrator to service users, network problem, small screen size, limited memory capacity of the mobile phone and unfavorable type of operating system used. However, the study revealed that most of the respondents were loyal regarding Mobile Learning Technology usage and mobile technology was considered as a means of simplifying academic related issues and there was no need for students moving from their home to the university searching for the information they needed. The study recommends that the system must provide access to online synchronous communication tools such as chat, and to asynchronous communication tools such as email, and Short Messages Service (SMS) to allow for broadly distributed information such as notices on grades and assignments. The government should also provide reliable electricity so that students can be able to use M-learning effectively. The study concludes that there is still a lot to be done to improve on Mobile Learning Technology to facilitate services users and that more initiatives should be done to avoid mobile technology problems as associated in learning activities.
