    Factors affecting the employee’s absenteeism in public work organizations in Tanzania

    The aim of this study was to investigating factors affecting employees' absenteeism n public work organizations, the case being selected secondary schools in Northern Unguja-Zanzibar. Simple Random and Purposive Samplings were used to select the respondents. A total of 40 questionnaires were distributed to public secondary schools employees in Northern Unguja. The methods of data collection were questionnaires, interviews and observation. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used to process the data. The study findings revealed a number of factors which influence the decision by employees to be absent from a work place. Respondents had different views on each question. The study found out that some of the factors which prompt employee absenteeism include looking for more incomes via other duties such as family matters, lack of opportunities and compensation for promotion and lack of good working facilities. From the findings these factors linked to one another. From the findings of the study a number of recommendations have been provided to help the government and or public organizations. To remedy the situations in secondary schools so that teachers are available in their working stations and concentrate in teaching.
