    The nature underling factors and conditions of child labour in the information sector:the case of street working children in Muheza district in Tanga region.

    Child labour is recognized as a socio- economic problem that faces most of the countries around the world including Tanzania. It involves the denial of the rights to the child to education, opportunity to fill physical, psychological, moral and spiritual development it is also exploitative and humiliating. The study used both qualitative and quantitative approaches and research instrument such as questionnaires, observations, interviews and documentation techniques in data collection in order to achieve the following objectives to examine the characteristics of the working children and their families, to find out the kind of activities and working conditions the children are engaged in , to investigate the effect of work on children, their families, and the community; and to examine existing interventions and suggest alternative measures of combating child labour in the informal sector. The findings revealed that 77% ( 90 ) of respondents in Muheza district were engaged in child labour because of social economic and cultural reasons mainly poverty, poor quality of education, health, orphanage and influence from peer groups. The study recommended that root cause of child labour mainly poverty should be tackled by the government, stakeholders and other development partners including civil society organizations. Currents policies and programs should address the linkage within the house hold economy and enhance prosperity of the poor. Finally suggestions were made for further research areas.
