    Effects of ISO 9001 certification on organizational performance in Tanzania: a case of manufacturing organizations

    This study aims at revealing if there are significant improvements effects of ISO 9001 certification to organizational performance in Tanzania. Organizations are encouraged to adopt ISO 9001 requirements in their management systems so as to improve performance (ISO 9000:2005). Effects of ISO 9001 certification to the organizational performance in Tanzania are not known to many organizations (ISO Survey, 2008). Methodology used in the study was descriptive research approach. Population included all ISO 9001 certified manufacturing organizations in Tanzania. Sample size included ten randomly selected manufacturing organizations in Dar es Salaam. Structured questionnaire using a five point Likert scale was used for data collection. Data were analyzed by SPSS software. The study revealed positive significant improvements on product quality, production volume and competitiveness. No significant improvements on employee’s motivation were revealed. The study concludes by indicating that ISO 9001 certification has significant improvement to organizational performance on product quality, production volume and competitiveness. However ISO 9001 certification has no significant improvement on employee’s motivation. It is highly recommended to manufacturing organizations to be certified to ISO 9001 to improve performance in product quality, production volume and competitiveness.
