    Possibilities of delivering demand-driven climate information for rural climate change adaptation a case of Longido district, Arusha region, Tanzania

    The study investigated needs and values of climate information, structure in which it is processed in the rural context as well as factors influencing its use so as to explore the feasibility of delivering demand-driven climate information that can effectively support rural climate change adaptation. Both qualitative and quantitative research approaches were utilized in gathering data across 100 respondents sampled purposively based on their experience in using climate information, ability to provide relevant information and willingness to participate in the research. The study found that climate information, whether formal or informal, is highly demanded and valued among rural people. However, there exists non-uniformity in the way respondents understand causes of climate change, interpret formal climate information, and apply that information. It was also noted that climate information channeled through mass media reaches few people in communities but it is filtered and circulated further through interpersonal interactions or social group gatherings. Nevertheless, socio-economic and cultural structures are crucial aspects in processing as well as utilizing climate information. The study proposed a framework to guide key stakeholders to deliver demand-driven climate information that would be in line with rural community-specific situation(s). To address fully challenges around demand-driven information, Furthermore, research on gender equity, cultural beliefs and systems alongside integration of climate information with other pieces of climate change adaptation information is required.
