Promotion of bioslurry usage as a natural agrochemical in selected biogas user households in Same district, Kilimanjaro region.
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2018) Kainkwa, Charles Fidelis
The aim of this study was to elucidate new promotional techniques of bioslurry usage as a natural agrochemical. The study was conducted among 49 selected biogas users` households in Same District who were randomly selected. The findings showed that, 98% of users have received training on the use and management of bioslurry mainly 57% house visits by TDBP staff, 35% refresher training, 4% dissemination of manual and 2% local meeting/gathering. Furthermore 93% of all 49 respondents use bioslurry out of which 81% as agrochemical and only 2% as fish pond fertilizer. 27% of those said to spend more than 2 hours in the preparation, 20% less than 30 minutes meanwhile 15% between 30 minutes and 1 hour. This study also found only 4% of biogas installations were connected to toilets and 98% had bioslurry pits hence there was proper system of collection. Lastly 87% felt visits by TDBP staff should be more frequent as way of acquiring knowledge. More interestingly many biogas users are willing to pay for frequent visit by TDBP staff. The study suggests that TDBP may utilise the willingness shown by their users in contributing on the costs of promotion activities.
