    The law for environmental protection against marine pollution in Tanzania

    Marine pollution in recent years has grown into one of the most disturbing world problems. It is unfortunate that the development of man is in fact the sole concern of this problem. This is because throughout history man has used, and thereby changed his natural environment and as a result led to the degradation of the same environment. Nevertheless, efforts have been made to combat marine pollution both at international and national levels. In this work we will look at the law related to the protection of the environment against marine pollution in Tanzania. Chapter one will consist of background, definition of terms and literature review. We will discuss the definition of marine pollution as well as its sources. In chapter two we will give brief background information of Tanzanian's marine ecosystem. It will cover physical environment and marine resources. Chapter three seek to show the interaction between socio-economic development of the coast and marine pollution. We will find out that while man has to strive for the ultimate goal of creating the most convenient human residence, the some process actually and proportionately whiter away the natural worthiness of the very house man is developing. This is important as we will point out the sources of marine pollution in Tanzania. Chapter four identifies institutional arrangement in marine affairs in Tanzania. Several institutions in the country whether specifically established to deal with the management of marine environment will be examined and their role established. It is in this chapter that we will also show Tanzania's co-operation at regional level. Chapter five confines itself to the control of marine pollution. It examines legislation on marine protection both at international and national level. Our findings and recommendations will be in the last chapter.
