    The influence of human resource management practices on employees’’ retention in the hotel sector in Tanzania: the case of Kinondoni District

    This study aimed at assessing the influence of Human Resource Management (HRM) on employee’s retention in the hotel industry in Tanzania. Human resource management variables namely training and development, compensation and organization structure were regressed with employee’s retention to determine their influence on the later. Structured questionnaire were distributed to 156 repeating hotel customers in Kinondoni district in Dar es Salaam region. Out of 156 distributed questionnaire 154 (99%) were well filled to cater for quantitative analysis. Analysis was conducted by the assistance of SPSS version 21. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to test the constructs that sought to examine their influence on employees’ retention in the hotels in kinondoni. The study reveals that two of HRM variables namely compensation and organisation structure have positive and significant influence on employees’ retention. However, training and development were found to have positive insignificant effect on employees’ retention. The study recommends that hotel industry should that hotel industry should compensate their employees for the work done and establish fair and conducive working environment if they want to retain their skilled employees. Furthermore, the government through the ministry of natural resource and tourism should make sure that the hotels compensate their employees accordingly. Also, this study opens doors for further studies on compensation and organization culture to be conducted in other hotels in the other districts and regions in Tanzania so as to compare the results.
