Evaluation of building construction project performance monitoring based on initial plans: the case of building projects in Tanzania
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2014) Jeje, Jeje
This study deals with evaluation of the performance monitoring of building construction projects based on initial construction plans. The focus is to determine, through performance monitoring, whether the project is succeeding or failing to achieve the intended objectives based on initial construction plans. The study extensively reviewed the relevant written literatures, distributed questionnaires and also carried out the study on two selected building projects. The respondents were asked questions in relation to the importance, impact and effects of the monitoring factors namely, cost, time, quality, health and safety, environment, communication and client satisfaction. The data obtained were analyzed through simple frequency distribution table, the relative importance index and the multi regression analysis method. The top ten influential factors on project performance monitoring which were determined include: the number of meetings held (site, technical, coordination); difference between estimated and actual completion time; information coordination between client and project parties; the official correspondences; the number of requests for information; difference between contract sum and final account, major variation between original design and actual completed work; variation costs; speed; quality and reliability of service to client; and inspection and audit. Based on the above findings, the study recommends the use of performance monitoring factors under the group of cost, time, quality, health and safety, environment, communication and client satisfaction as a basis for knowledge to all building practitioners in Tanzania.
