    The challenges facing air cargo transportation performance in Tanzania the case of swissport (T) limited

    The thrust of this study was to identify the challenges facing air cargo transportation performance in Tanzania the case being Swissport (T) Limited. The specific objectives of the study were to identify the challenges facing stakeholders in air cargo transportation in Tanzania, to assess the level of performance in air cargo transportation in Tanzania, and to measure the relationship between the challenges and level of performance in air cargo transportation in Tanzania. The study employed quantitative research design. The study relied on secondary data and primary data whereby 100 respondents were given questionnaires. Sampling procedure involved both probabilistic and non-probabilistic sampling whereby Swissport cargo operations officials were selected purposefully and by probability. The data were coded and analysed by using SPSS 16.0-2007 computer software. The findings of the study revealed that challenges facing stakeholders in air cargo transportation in Tanzania were lack of professionalism among staff, poor infrastructure, high cargo congestion, high operating costs, and strict environmental regulations. Others were poor technology, prolonged legal framework and poor marketing forecasting. Furthermore, the findings revealed that the level of performance in air cargo transportation in Tanzania is good, except adequate information flow and the cost charged. This reveals that some challenges are positive related while others are negative related to performance. Therefore, it is recommended that continuous training for specific job operations should be emphasized, increase more manpower and equipments, fix better infrastructure and provide security and business supportive environment.
