(University of Dar es Salaam, 2006) Igangula, Mbaraka Hussein
Globalization has a number of impacts on the growth of Construction Industries in the Developing Countries (DCs). The stake holders are categorized as contractors, consultants, clients, and other individuals. The contractors covered both specialized contractors, materials manufacturers and suppliers. Data were collected using semi structured questionnaires and oral interviews. Different methods of data analysis were used for no single method could by itself satisfactorily analyze the data. The study established that, less than 10% of all respondents had deep understanding on globalization. Constraints, faced by the Construction Industries included erratic work opportunities, lack of skilled personnel, limited financial resources, inadequate working gear/equipment’s and materials. Further the study established short and long term impacts of globalization to the growth of Construction Industry in the Developing Countries. It is concluded that globalization is inevitable. The possible negative impacts must be dealt with by deliberate efforts recommended to increase level of awareness, capacity building of local stakeholders and enforcing law and regulations to safe guard the local Construction firms. Good governance was also insisted so as to fight against corruption.
