Specifically the study investigated necessary factors which will enable EPZ firms to improve their productivity and contribute significantly to the export performance of Tanzania. The investigation based on the extent to which infrastructural support; fiscal support through; and regulatory support through EPZ relates to export performance. The study was conducted in Dar es Salaam Export Processing Zones (EPZs). Questionnaire, observations and interviews were used to collect data from the respondents. Secondary data were also collected from EPZA investors’ database and from the website. With the assistance of SPSS qualitative and quantitative data were analyzed. The aim of this paper is to make a review on the contribution of EPZs on Tanzania export performance. Comparison between Tanzania export performance and that of the EPZ for six years is made to determine the extent to which EPZs contribute to this performance. The findings reveal that EPZs contribution to the overall Tanzania export performance is not significant. The quality and reliable physical infrastructures, regulatory, and fiscal supports are very important for the success of EPZ. The condition of available physical infrastructures limit export performance and the government show significant efforts to improve such infrastructures. Furthermore, the regulatory and fiscal support conditions limit the performance of EPZs. Cooperation between EPZA and firms operating there under on one hand, and stakeholders agencies on the other hand is not satisfactory. The study recommends that EPZ policies must be compatible with other policies and stakeholder agencies must cooperate accordingly with EPZA and its firms in general.
