    Gender-based violations of women’s rights through forced sex (rape): a case study of Ubungo women

    This study bears the title gender-based violation of women’s rights through forced sex (rape): a case study of Ubungo women. the main purpose of the study was to investigate dominant forms of sexual abuse within and outside marriage. specifically, the study assessed the extent of sexual abuse in marriage, explored the main issues facing married women and women having intimacy partners due to forced sex and effects on their livelihoods this dissertation has five chapters: the first chapter looks at the background of the problem, statement of the problem, general and specific objectives, research questions and significance of the study. the general objective of this study was to investigate the dominant form and extent of sexual abuse in marriage. the specific objectives of the study were: to understand main issues facing women who were married and who had intimacy partners due to forced sex and effects on their livelihoods; to discover the perception of the society towards forced sex in marriage; to understand the nature, causes and effects of forced sex within and outside marriage; and to determine the extent traditional practices continued to empower men than women in marriage matters the second chapter reviews literature that guided this study to explore what data exist on the topic and the problem area and the knowledge gap to be filled by my study. the third chapter deals with research methodology: qualitative and quantitative approaches for the effective analysis of the problem in question. the fourth chapter discusses the general findings of forced sex within and outside marriage which is guided by both ecological model and feminist theories. the last chapter is a conclusion of the study.
