Current investment regime and growth of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Tanzania: the case of FDI projects facilitated through Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC)
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2017) Furtado, Lorraine Peter
The study of Current Investment Regime and growth of FDI in Tanzania 2015-2017 brings forward the analysis of the Current Investment Regime with its effect on the FDI inflow in the past three years in comparison to the preceding years. This report brings forward the objectives of determining the factors fostering Foreign Direct Investments in Tanzania (2015 to 2017), assessing current investment policies that determine the Foreign Direct Investments in Tanzania and examining the current investment practices that determine Foreign Direct Investments in Tanzania through a qualitative approach. According to the UNCTAD 2013 stats Database from the findings provided in this research, FDI took its assertion from the mid 1990’s especially after the establishment of TIC where the growth in the inflows started to be recognizable. The increase and the decrease in the FDI inflow has been going on for quite a while now since then, with the recent reports the growth in FDI has now reduced its pace by declining in the current years of 2015-2016 as seen in the reports brought forward by this study. The characteristics of the investment regime are pointed out in this study and the changes in the investment regime have been captured with a review of the current changes in different sectors that point out that the regime is still in its course of making changes that will correspond with the FDI growth hence indicating that the investment regime will still proceed with the changes of which the effect will be noted in the coming years. This implies a call for other researchers in this particular field of study to come up with better and more updated findings in the coming years.
