Effective utilization of human resource in the Tanzania telecom industy: a case study of Vodacom
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2016) Felician, Muhere Joseph
This study examined the factors affecting effective utilization of human resources in the Tanzania Telecom Industry using Vodacom as Case Study. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The data were collected from 80 Vodacom employees through the use of interviews and questionnaires. Qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis while for quantitative data were analysed using SPSS by computing frequency, mean, standard deviation, Correlation and OLS Regression Analysis. Descriptive analysis revealed that Vodacom Company has several challenges that hamper the company from not achieving effective utilization of human resources. It was found that the company largely does not consider employees’ objectives in executing its works. OLS Regression results indicates that: identification of employees’ objectives specifically provision of employee worker’s needs; employees’ job descriptions specifically presence of normal work schedule and presence of good supervisory relationship; and incentives for employees specifically provision of certificate of appreciation and recognition, emphasis on medical check up, and presence of reasonable time of payment for each worker are the significant factors that influence effective utilization of Human Resource in Tanzania. Based on the findings, it is recommended that, management should evaluate employees’ objective so that to curb the distressed condition prevailing to most of employees and make them work comfortably. Management should continue maintaining the few observed incentives so as to achieve total human resource utilization in the company.
