    Do linkages between formal and informal financial institutions affect the sustainability of mfls? the case of saccos in Dar es Salaam.

    Financial Linkages between Formal and Informal Financial Institutions has been regarded to be one of factors that can bring up sustainability of Microfinance Institutions. This study was carried out in order to find out if MFls institutions, in this case SAC005 in Tanzania can be sustainable if they have financial linkages with formal financial institutions like banks. In collecting the primary data, interviews were conducted and questionnaires were distributed to selected SACCOS committee members and officers who perform administrative work of selected SACCOS namely; NSSF, Wanama, Lumumba, Ukonga Stakishari, Usaka and Kinondoni. Data analysis was done by SPSS software. Statistical tests by way of percentage measurements were also done. The study reveals that financial linkages between formal and informal financial institutions have a positive influence on financial sustainability of MFls. SACCOS that have linkages activities have been found to be doing better than those without linkages. Therefore for MFls to become financially sound and sustainable they should engage in financial linkages.
